Discuss Wal-Mart at tonight's meeting
TEGA CAY--The Wal-Mart public meeting is tonight at the Fort Mill High School auditorium.
Starting at 6 p.m., sign-up sheets will be available. Interested speakers must sign one of four sheets: Tega Cay residents for Wal-Mart, Tega Cay residents against Wal-Mart, non-residents for Wal-Mart and non-residents against Wal-Mart. Also starting at 6 p.m., representatives from Wal-Mart and "Us Against the WAL" will answer questions before the meeting starts at 7 p.m. Architects from Taylor Scott Architects Inc. in Tulsa, Okla., the firm hired to design the building for the Stonecrest site, will also be there to answer design-related questions. Engineers from Kimbley-Horn in Charlotte will answer environmental, traffic and civil engineering questions. A Wal-Mart public relations team and Bryan and Skip Tuttle, Stonecrest's developers, will be on hand as well, Bryan Tuttle said. Once the meeting starts, "Us Against the WAL" will have 15 minutes to speak. Wal-Mart will follow with a 45-minute presentation, then Tega Cay City Manager Grant Duffield will make a 15-minute presentation. Following a 15-minute break, public comments will begin about 8:30 p.m. and continue until Tega Cay Mayor Bob Runde ends the meeting at 10 p.m. Tega Cay residents will be able to speak first, alternating between opponents and supporters in the order they signed up. If all the residents finish before 10 p.m., the floor will be opened to non-residents. With that time limit, 45 people are expected to be able to speak, although the auditorium can seat up to 850 people. Each speaker will get two minutes to make a statement. Speakers will not be able to ask questions, Runde said.
